
Azerbaijan Railways Promote Opportunities for New Transport Route to Europe
The Chairman of CJSC Azerbaijani Railways (AzR) Javid Gurbanov is visiting Europe, where he is promoting a new transport route South-West.
According to the AzR press service, on 2 November in Vienna, he met with the head of the group Austrian Federal Railways Andreas Matt.
During the meeting the parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of freight and passenger traffic between Europe and Asia.
At the meeting, Andreas Matt said about the need to continue the discussion of prospects of cooperation within the framework of South-West.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to normalize relations between the railways of Azerbaijan and Austria to deepen co-operation and discuss the relevant projects
Prior to this, the possibilities of the rail corridor South-West were discussed in Iran, Kazakhstan and China.
The corridor will operate on the route India – Gulf – Iran – Azerbaijan – Georgia - Black Sea - Europe. ----08D

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less.
