In 2010, the National Entrepreneurship Support Fund (NESF) declared an AZN 3 million soft loan to build an enterprise for the production of baby food with an annual capacity of 2 thousand tons. It took six years since then, but it is unknown if this plant started working.
Only in 2015 Azerbaijan imported 2,857.5 tons of baby food, which is 5.3% more than in the previous year. Official expenses of the importers amounted to more than $ 22 million, the State Customs Committee shows.
It should be emphasized that the exporters (the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Russia, Germany, Turkey and Georgia) declared the export of baby food to Azerbaijan in 2014 for $ 21.8 million. This is $ 8.3 million more than it was declared by the Azerbaijani customs.
In total in 2011-2015 the official costs of baby food importers accounted for $ 93.7 million.
Baby food is subject to obligatory certification in Azerbaijan. Today these certificates belong to Kasp-VC, Humana Azerbaijan and Dincer and Carcioglu, according to the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents.
Recall that NESF reported (http://anfes.gov.az/files/Hes_2010.pdf) the adoption of the decision on financing the project on construction of a baby food production enterprise on February 2, 2010. Investors of the project totaling 13 million AZN were the state-run Azerbaijan Investment Company, LLC Diplomat-1 and HIPP.
Currently, HIPP has an enterprise for baby food production in Georgia.
