BP-Azerbaijan President explained mechanism of gas production and statistics issues

From January to September 2014 7.25 billion cub.m. of natural gas has been extracted on the Shah Deniz gas condensate field, Gordon Birrell, BP-Azerbaijan President, told journalists.

He said that during this period 1.72 million tons of condensate has been extracted from this field.

During 9 months, 2014 the international consortium has extracted 7.3 billion cub.m. of gas and 1.85 million tons of condensate from the Shah Deniz field.

BP-Azerbaijan President explained that the production process on the Shah Deniz field has stabilized and statistical data does not show the possibilities of the field and the production platform. The gas fields are different from the oil fields, explained Birrell. We need the gas markets to increase production. Even having the markets and already signed contracts, one sometimes run into the problems, because the gas market is also dependent on the climatic conditions.

“Therefore, one year we could have smaller production volume, the other year it could become even, the following year it could grow, but as a whole it will be within the limits of the forecasted volume,” added BP-Azerbaijan President.

At present oil is extracted from the field by five operation wells. However, total number of drilled wells has reached seven.

Birrell believes that in mid-term the production within the Shah Deniz-1 project will be stable and there is not precondition for its reduction.
