SSC has opened part of economic indicators for the first half of 2016.
Enterprises are increasing...
According to information, in January-June 4,362 institutions and enterprises were created in the country. The Committee states that in this area as compared to the same period there is an increase of 29.7%.
63% of new institutions and enterprises are registered in Baku and 11% - in low-lying areas of the country, 7.7% - in Absheron, 4.7% - in Lankaran, 4.5% - in Ganja-Kazakh, 3.9% - in Guba-Khachmaz.
There is no information on discontinued activities of private entrepreneurs or organizations.
Statistics of closed enterprises and organizations is not reported. According to the Committee, in January-June, there was a growth in the number of those wishing to start individual businesses. For 6 months the tax authorities registered 48,911 individuals. In comparison with the previous year the growth of registered persons, who want to start a business, was more than 30.5%. Private entrepreneurs mostly account for the economic regions such as Baku, Ganja-Gazakh, Lankaran, Absheron, Sheki-Zagatala and Guba-Khachmaz. Information on entrepreneurs that discontinued operations is not given.
Small increase in industrial production
According to the committee, within 6 months in the industrial production meager growth was observed. In January-June there were produced industrial products worth 14.75 billion AZN. This figure is 0.6% higher than last year. 64.4% of industrial products were produced in the mining, and 28.9% - in the processing sectors. According to the Committee, in the processing sector food production increased 4.5% and tobacco - 17.2%.
Manufacture of beverages decreased by 8.2%, clothing - 4.2%, leather and skin products, shoes - 76.4%, chemical industry production of 16.1%, rubber and plastic mass - 22.9%, construction materials – 23.5%.
Foreign trade - exports again based on oil and gas
With regard to foreign relations, then, according to the State Statistics Committee, in January-May Azerbaijanis carried out trade operations with 155 countries. Products were exported to 95 countries and imported from 1,450 five countries. The trade turnover in January-May amounted to 8.3675 billion dollars.
The export value was 5.0361 billion dollars, and imports - 3.3314 billion dollars. According to the Committee, the trade surplus was 1.7047 billion dollars.
As always, much of the trade turnover, 41.8%, fell on EU states. The trade turnover with CIS countries amounted to 12%. 46% of turnover fell on the other countries.
The total value of imported products occupied the main place of oil, petroleum products and natural gas. Subsequent places were occupied by fruits and vegetables, plastic mass, ferrous metals and products made of them. -0--

Azerbaijani internet service providers Aztelekom and Baktelekom will introduce substantial changes to their pricing structure starting August 15, the companies announced today. Under the new tariffs, the minimum internet speed will rise to 100 Mbit/s, with the cost per Mbit/s decreasing from 0.45 AZN to 0.25 AZN. As a result, monthly charges will be set at 25 AZN for 100 Mbit/s, 30 AZN for 150 Mbit/s, and 36 AZN for 250 Mbit/s.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met today with Ahmed Moallim Figi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. This meeting followed a discussion held the previous day between Figi and Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikail Jabbarov.
