Tariff Council Increases Electricity Prices by 15%
On July 15 the Tariff Council raised the wholesale and retail electricity prices in Azerbaijan. Wholesale tariffs for electricity produced by JSC Azerenergy increased from 0.041 manat to 0.043 manat. Retail price increased from AZN 0.06 / kWh to 0.07 AZN / kWh.
Thus, the increase in retail prices amounted to more than 15 percent.
Raising tariffs, according to the Tariff Council, is aimed "at ensuring the stability and duration of quality service in energy supply", as well as at long-term development of electricity producers and distribution network.
The new tariffs will reduce the dependence of the producers of electricity from the state budget and increase wages for more than 18 thousand employees of the system.
Debts of the customers by July 15 will be calculated under the old rates, said the Tariff Council.
Previously, May 15, the Tariff Council for more than a third of the population increased overall costs for the use of water and sanitation - from 0.36 to 0.5 manats per 1 cubic meter.
All this is happening against the backdrop of a sharp drop in household income, closing businesses and jobs. -06D--
