FAO Will Help Azerbaijan to Fight Grasshoppers
Baku/11.09.13/Turan : Azerbaijan signed with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) two grant agreements in the field of agriculture. The budget of the projects aimed at combating locusts and development of seed growing is $ 1 million.
Agreement signed by the Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov and subregional coordinator for Central Asia and Azerbaijan FAO Representative Mustafa Sinaceur on September 10 in Baku.
The cost of the project "Development of the seed in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation " is $ 400 thousand It will be implemented in 2013-2014 . The project includes the production of seed policies in the regional and national levels , increasing the production and sale of seed corn, the creation of private seed farms , improvement of legislation on seed , capacity building control authorities.
The project "Improvement of the status of grasshoppers in the Caucasus and Central Asia" will be implemented within three years. FAO has allocated for this purpose Azerbaijan $ 600 million It involves strengthening the fight against grasshoppers , organization of study abroad at the master's level of local experts , the development of technical and human resources Phytosanitary Service .
Currently, FAO provides the participation of Azerbaijan National 4 and 8 regional projects. Technical assistance to Azerbaijan in these projects is an average of $ 500 million. - 08D-
