In Azerbaijan, there was a massive collection of pomegranates
Azerbaijan began the season of collecting pomegranates, one of the most fast-growing sectors of horticulture. Only in 2012 the area under pomegranate orchards increased by 700 ha, or 3.5%.
According to specialists, this year it is expected to collect at least 145,000 tons of the harvest. Part of the production is exported - mainly to Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. Only in 2012 from 40,300 tons of the pomegranates production of the gardeners in the Geychay area 40 % was exported. In this area in the last two years 450 hectares of new pomegranate gardens were planted.
There are several large processing plants (AzNar, AzGranata, Gilan Qebele Yeyinti Istehsal, etc.) that buy products from farmers for the production of juices. The main part of the goods is exported.
According to the committee at the beginning of 2013, the country had 20,500 hectares of pomegranate orchards, of which 14,465 hectares were at the fruitful age. Production amounted to 141,600 tons, which is 4.5 % more than in 2011. Yield per hectare due to weather and other conditions fell by 0.8 quintals and reached 96.8 quintals per 1 hectare.
Just at the beginning of this year at the disposal of gardeners there were 132,700 hectares of orchards. -08B-
