Invalid Difference in Prices for Dried Fruit Recognized by State Customs Committee

The difference between the prices of dried fruit after the customs clearance procedures and the prices in the wholesale markets, not to mention the retail, in some cases is up to five times the sum.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan (http://www.customs.gov.az/az/news-2434.html) on the basis of the monitoring on the eve of the Novruz holiday in the Green and Meyveli markets, the comparative analysis shows that the difference in prices for walnuts (shelled and unshelled) is 2-3 times, chestnuts - 3 times, dried grapes - 7 times, pineapples - 4 times, etc.

The customs justify the big difference with several factors, such as customs duties of 4 types and the value added tax. In addition, the data indicated that Azerbaijan has 50 companies specializing in the import of dried fruits and supplying them to the domestic market.

Independent experts have repeatedly noted a huge discrepancy in prices for customs and markets, offering statutory release of importers from certain types of tax and customs duties, affecting the final cost of the product. The Milli Majlis has not yet reacted to the proposal.

In addition, the rise in price is affected by a certain conspiracy of the participants in import operations, because dried fruits are actually sold at a uniform price in Baku.
