Minister of Energy of Georgia to Discuss Gas Issues in Baku
On February 4, the Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze arrived in Baku for talks with the leadership of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). Subject of the negotiations is the supply of gas from Azerbaijan.
The Georgian Energy Ministry press service reported vaguely that at the meeting with the President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdulayev "the issues of cooperation and prospects" will be discussed. Earlier, the Georgian side requested an increase in gas supply in connection with the possibility of reducing the volume of gas from the Russian Gazprom.
The same topic was discussed in January during the visit of Rovnag Abdullayev to Tbilisi. Then it was agreed to increase the supply from Azerbaijan by 50 million cubic meters.
Georgia needs 2 billion cubic meters, of which 90% comes from Azerbaijan and 10% from Russia as payment for its gas transit to Armenia.
Earlier, Moscow said it will sell gas to Georgia and not give it for free, as a transit fee.
After that, the Georgian side raised the issue of increasing purchases of gas from Gazprom and the reduction of supply from Azerbaijan, which caused tension between Baku and Tbilisi. -02D-
