Stadler Rail Group started the construction of a railway plant in Azerbaijan

The construction of a plant has been launched for the production of railway cars by the Swiss company Stadler Rail Group in the city of Ganja in the west of Azerbaijan.

On Saturday, October 18, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant.

The plant, with an initial capacity of 50-60 passenger cars a year, will provide them not only for the domestic market, but also for the neighboring countries.

The head of Azerbaijan Railways Arif Askerov said that the construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2016.

The company will also provide full repair of railway cars.

The company Stadler Rail Group also imports railway cars to Azerbaijan. In June, a contract was signed for the supply of 30 cars at the beginning of 2015. Cars, which are adapted to the rapid replacement of pair wheels for movement on the European track, will be involved in the pop-up railway route Baku-Tbilisi-Kars. It is possible that part of the cars will be delivered from the Stadler factory in Minsk, the Deputy Director for Operations of the company Philip Brunner told the Minsky Courier paper. The plant for the production of high-speed trains Stadler in Minsk, which cost 50 million euro, entered service in 2013.

The cost or the equity participation of the Azerbaijani-Swiss project has not been reported. -0
