Theo Prins : Azerbaijan uses GMO
Baku/29.01.14/Turan : A researcher from the Institute of Food Safety at the Rikult Wageningen University, Theo Prins started from 27th January in Baku trainings to reveal genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food products .
Representative of consumer society believes that Azerbaijan holds not only the production of GMO agricultural products , but also their use in industrial processes, such as poultry .
The trainings are attended by employees of Experimental Test Centre (AzTEST) specialists from the Genetic Resources Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The classes are held in the framework of the European Union TAIEX . The participants will get also familiar with the European legislation on GMO.
From 2013 AzTEST has been operating a laboratory testing GMO products. To date, tests have not yielded positive results for the presence of GMO in food products .
Head of press service of the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent Fazil Talybov told Turan that currently being tested are several batches of grain taken from different regions of the country, the results of which will be announced later .
The Chairman of the Union of Free Consumers Azerbaijan Eyyub Huseynov told Turan, in Azerbaijan for the production of some vegetables and melons (tomatoes , watermelons , etc.), crops ( soy, corn) there are used seeds derived from GMO. Imported rice also includes GMO. "To find it is easy: just sow their seeds - they do not give a crop ," he said . - 08B-

Azerbaijani internet service providers Aztelekom and Baktelekom will introduce substantial changes to their pricing structure starting August 15, the companies announced today. Under the new tariffs, the minimum internet speed will rise to 100 Mbit/s, with the cost per Mbit/s decreasing from 0.45 AZN to 0.25 AZN. As a result, monthly charges will be set at 25 AZN for 100 Mbit/s, 30 AZN for 150 Mbit/s, and 36 AZN for 250 Mbit/s.
