What did Azerbaijani President and BP President discuss?
Yesterday Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reCeived Robert Dudley, President of BP company.
According to the official information, the sides emphasize successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and BP company established many years ago and mentioned that cooperation is of strategic importance.
BP Presidient has informed President about the works done on the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli bloc of fields,
It has been stressed at the meeting that work on the Shah-Deniz field is successful and the sides exchanged opinions on the perspectives of cooperation.
Last time BP President visited Baku on December 17-18, 2012. That time the official statement did not contain any details. However, later on it was reported that on December 16, 2012 SOCAR and BP signed the memorandum to expand the South Caucasian gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). According to the document, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will operate the new project and it will have 60% share in it. BP is the operator of the the current South Caucasian gas pipeline with 25% and SOCAR has 10%.
Judging by all, the current visit of BP President Robert Dudley to Baku is also connected with some new agreements between BP and SOCAR. BP has been waiting for legalization of its joining the trans-Anadolu gas pipeline (TANAP) project with SOCAR. In addition, BP President and President have possibly discussed delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, because the Nabucco West and TAP have submitted their final commercial proposals to the Shah-Deniz partners over a month ago. It seems like during this time the consortium has chosen the weakest among the pipelines.
According to the schedule, the Shah-Deniz consortium must announce its choice of the route to deliver Azerbaijani gas to Europe till June 30, 2013. Earlier SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists that the results will be available in May 2013. Judging by all, the ceremony of the pipeline selection will be held either in Austria or in Italy, the final destination of the gas transportation from 2019.—0—
