'Our previous experience of cooperation with President Trump was positive' - Ilham Aliyev
On 11 February, the Chinese TV channel CGTN (China Global Television Network) published an interview of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which he gave in Davos on 20 January.
Answering a question about Azerbaijan's role in world politics, Aliyev said that global international players value Azerbaijan's contribution to regional stability.
‘If each country concentrates only on its own agenda and does not try to interfere in the affairs of other countries, there will be no conflicts, disagreements and wars. The only reason why we still have unstable situations and bloodshed around the world is because countries with an imperialist past want to continue to interfere, dominate and dictate. And that naturally leads to resistance,’ he said.
Asked about the new US administration, Aliyev said that during Trump's first term, ‘our relations developed very successfully, unlike the last four years when they completely deteriorated due to the Biden administration's unfair and unjust approach to Azerbaijan.’
‘'Our previous experience of cooperation with President Trump was positive. We expect that these four years, which we consider lost years in US-Azerbaijani relations, will become history and we will resume work,’ he noted.
According to Aliyev, some Western leaders have been ‘very unfair to President Trump, and they are certainly concerned.’
Aliyev also believes he sees no serious reason to worry about changes in the US. ‘I think the world can become much safer,’ he emphasised.
