Trump Welcomes American Teacher Freed By Russia To White House, Says 'Another Detainee' To Be Freed Soon

The U.S. President Donald Trump Tuesday night welcomed an American teacher who was freed by Russia, to the White House, telling the reporters that “somebody else is being released tomorrow that you will know of,” TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.

Marc Fogel, who began serving a 14-year sentence in June 2022 in Russian, was released by the Kremlin yesterday after negotiations between Trump, his special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Russian leaders.

"After three and a half years of detention in Russia, Marc is finally free," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement. "Marc’s release is also a reminder that other American citizens are still detained in Russia. President Trump is committed to bringing all of them home," he added.
The deal to release Fogel, who was designated as wrongfully detained by the State Department, was negotiated at the leadership level, according to a statement from national security adviser Mike Waltz.

But White House officials  did not provide any details about the “exchange, other than to say it was “a show of good faith from the Russians and a sign we are moving in the right direction to end the brutal and terrible war in Ukraine.”

“We were treated very nicely by Russia, actually,” Trump said in the Oval Office later Tuesday. “I hope that’s the beginning of a relationship where we can end that war and millions of people can stop being killed.”
