Olzhas Bektenov appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan
интерфакс: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree appointing Olzhas Bektenov as prime minister of the country.
“To appoint Olzhas Abayevich Bektenov as Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, releasing him from his previously held position,” says the decree, the text of which was published on the president’s website on Tuesday.
Previously, deputies of the Majilis (the lower house of the parliament of Kazakhstan) gave their consent to the president to appoint Bektenov as prime minister of the country.
43-year-old Bektenov has been the head of the presidential administration since April 2023 and until now. Over the years, he worked as the head of the anti-corruption department, the Ministry of Justice, and the capital’s akimat.
The day before, the President of Kazakhstan accepted the resignation of the government, which had been headed by Alikhan Smailov since January 2022.
