ICT sector outpaces Azerbaijan’s economy

Azerbaijan’s metallurgical industry entered a contradictory phase at the beginning of 2026, marked by simultaneous growth and decline. According to the State Statistics Committee, the total value of metallurgical production and fabricated metal products reached 518.3 million manats in January–April. During the same period, primary metal production increased by 9.6 percent, while the production of finished metal products declined by 17.9 percent. This divergence indicates weak development of the industry’s value chain: while the production of raw materials and semi-finished products is expanding, the final-product segment is shrinking.

Azerbaijan’s petrochemical industry has become one of the country’s key industrial sectors with strategic importance for the national energy economy, enabling the transformation of hydrocarbon resources into products with higher added value. As part of the economic diversification policy pursued over the past decade, the sector has emerged as one of the priority areas of the non-oil economy.

Azerbaijan’s petroleum products market is undergoing a quiet but significant transition. Behind the stability of state-regulated fuel prices lies a more complex reality: declining oil production, rising demand for higher-quality fuels, and a refining system that still struggles to keep pace with shifting consumption patterns.

Azerbaijan’s industrial sector showed only marginal growth in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring deeper structural constraints that continue to limit the country’s long-term economic transformation.
