The average prices of the consumer basket drawn up by Turan IA on 30 kinds of basic food products of domestic production increased by 2.4% in Baku in September.
Thus, for the third consecutive month prices continued to move up. In August prices increased by 3% and in July - by 1.4%. A decline of 1.04% was observed in June. In May prices decreased by 2.8% and in April – by 2.85%. The decline was due to the release of seasonal agricultural production to the market.
In September, first of all, prices for the reduced summer season products increased sharply - apples (+ 63.6%), tomatoes (+ 55.5%), and cucumbers (+ 33.3%). Next rose the prices for products dependent on imports - sugar (+ 38.7%), eggs (+ 14.2%), corn oil (+ 10.4%), milk (+ 8.3%), chicken meat (+ 8.1%), beef (+ 5.9%), lamb (+ 5.5%), margarine (+ 4%), and butter (+ 3.1%).
For other products the prices changed slightly or remained stable.
Due to the sharp decline in the market of seasonal products in October and the increase in customs duties on imports from November 1, even greater increase in food prices is expected.
