It is reported on detention of Abulfaz Melikov in "matter of customs officers"
Baku/08.08.22/Turan: Businessman Abulfaz Melikov was detained, local media reported.
According to the same sources, he was brought to justice as a part of criminal case against high-ranking customs officers, which is being investigated by the State Security Service.
Melikov is known for his "brokerage activities" in the field of customs clearance.
As previously stated in the media, in Azerbaijan, the taxation of entrepreneurs importing goods into the country with illegal levies was carried out through so-called "brokerage services" schemes.
Under the pretext of excluding "direct contacts" between the entrepreneur and the customs official, the paperwork was carried out through "brokers".
Melikov allegedly controlled one of the large such structures, through which goods were issued at significantly reduced prices for a certain bribe.
This created advantages for firms working through Melikov and at the same time the state did not receive funds from reducing tax revenues.
Now, according to the media, Melikov has been brought to justice on suspicion of tax and customs payments evasion to the state budget, and in official forgery.
It is also alleged that Melikov himself owned monopolies on the import of certain types of goods.
According to media reports, Melikov is an approximate of the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and in the past the head of the State Customs Committee Kamaleddin Heydarov.
At least, he is the founder of "Gabala Agrocomplex LLC", which is a part of "Gilan Holding", the owners of which are Heydarov's sons.
Officially, law enforcement agencies have not yet confirmed the information about Melikov's detention. -06B-
