Activist of REAL Movement is arrested for Seven Days
An activist of the REAL Movement, Asif Orujlu, was arrested for seven days during the Sunday rally in support of Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the REAL civil rights movement, Turan was told by the adviser of the head of the "Musavat" party, Yegana Hajiyeva.
According to her, the young man was arrested for "insubordination to the police."
Executive secretary of the REAL, Natig Jafarli, told Turan that Orujlu was arrested on Sunday near Sahil Park where a flash mob in defense of Mammadov was planned.
Orujlu was wearing a T-shirt with the image of Mammadov. Other participants of the action, seeing a large number of police, decided to hold the action in a different place.
Orujlu only managed to inform others about his arrest late in the evening.
On Monday, he was tried without a trusted lawyer.
According to Jafarli, in addition to the flash mob, the action was carried out in the form of small groups of activists dressed in T-shirts with the image of Mammadov; sixty people were involved in the action. No other participant of the rally was detained.
Orujlu is also an assistant of Mammadov in the Baku School of Political Studies of the Council of Europe, as well as an activist of the organization LYNC (South Caucasus Youth Liberal Network).
Ilgar Mammadov was arrested on fabricated charges of organizing riots in Ismailli region on January 23-24.-16D-
