ADAM: Poll "Democracy and the Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan 2013" Corresponds to Standard

The head of the Democratic Journalists League, Yadigar Mammadov, made a statement that his organization has not conducted a survey regarding the upcoming presidential elections in October.

On Monday, August 19 the head of the sociological service ADAM, Rufat Garagezli presented at the office of the League of Democratic Journalists the national survey results of the project "Democracy and the Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan in 2013."

It was announced that the survey was funded by the The Black Sea Trust - the Regional Cooperation, BST, German Marshall Fund.

The head of GMF Mehriban Rahimli told Turan the fund actually sponsored the survey of the project: "Democracy and the Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan 2013", where the financial agent was League of Democratic Journalists.

She also stressed that the fund is not liable for the results of the survey by ADAM, the results of which caused strong public interest.

"The poll was conducted by ADAM in accordance with the standards of the program SPSS 13.0. (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). It is a computer program for statistical data processing, one of the world leaders in the field of commercial data products intended for applied research in the social sciences," Rufat Garagezli told Turan.

According to him, the statistical error is + / - 3%.

Garagezli noted that Yadigar Mammadov was informed about the results of the survey more than a week before the release of the results.

Turan could not contact Mammadov, who, as it turned out, is abroad. It is possible that Mammadov had been pressed, the result of which was his refutation of participation in the survey.

Indirect confirmation of the pressure could be the following phrases from the text of the statement: "The publicly announced results of the survey are not based on facts", "in this context we will appeal to law enforcement agencies," "the rating and resources of the ruling party New Azerbaijan are significantly above the other parties."   -0 -
