Aliyev Demands Explanation from Putin for Supply of Weapons to Armenia
Baku / 13.08.20 / Turan: On the evening of August 12, the head of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, called Russian President Vladimir Putin. The topic of the conversation was the hostilities in the Tovuz area on July 12-16, the press service of the President said.
Aliyev reported on the damage to the settlements of Azerbaijan and the country's military as a result of this Armenian provocation.
“Aliyev noted that the purpose of this provocation was to involve a third party in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
Aliyev also brought to the attention of the Russian President that military supplies to Armenia from Russia during the days of the fighting and in the subsequent period caused concern and raised serious questions among the Azerbaijani public.
The President of Azerbaijan stated that the volume of intensive military supplies by cargo planes through Turkmenistan and Iran to Armenia amounted to more than 400 tons and the main purpose of his call is to clarify this issue,” the message says. What Putin responded to these claims of Aliyev, the message does not say.
In turn, the Kremlin press service reports that the parties “discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda. Mutual disposition to further strengthen the Russian-Azerbaijani partnership in all areas was confirmed."
“An exchange of views was held on regional issues in the context of the exacerbation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border that took place in July this year. The Russian side stressed the importance of preventing any actions that would escalate tension." -02D-
