Appeals court denies release for journalist Elnara Gasymova
On August 15, the Baku Appeals Court, chaired by Javid Huseyn, rejected the appeal against the decision of the Khatai District Court to extend the detention of journalist Elnara Gasymova by another 1 month and 7 days. Gasymova was arrested in connection with the “Abzas Media” case. According to lawyer Gunay Ismailova, during the court session, Elnara Gasymova stated that her arrest was related to the corruption investigations conducted by “Abzas Media.” However, the judge did not take this into account. It is worth noting that Elnara Gasymova was first arrested on November 20 of last year on charges of smuggling foreign currency.
On August 10, the Khatai District Court, chaired by Judge Rafael Sadikhov, extended Gasymova’s pre-trial detention by another 1 month and 7 days.
