At the trial in the case of Hilal Mamedov
Testimony of witnesses, employees of the Office of Internal Affairs for Drug Trafficking, continued on July 3 at the trial in the case of Hilal Mamedov, the chief editor of "Tolyshi Sado" newspaper, in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. The Police Captain, Jeyhun Musayev gave contradictory testimony. According to him, in an operation to arrest Mammadov were involved four employees, while at the previous hearing, his colleague said about participation of seven employee in the operation.
Musayev could give exact answer to the question of a lawyer, whether there was a formal decision on the formation of the operative group for inspection of Mamedov’s cloting.
Being asked where the witnesses were taken, Musayev said they were taken from the street.
The lawyer Ramiz Mamedov said that on 22-25 June, 2012 he had several times seen these witnesses in Nizami police office. However, the judge Azer Orujov interrupted him, saying that "the lawyer has no right to act as a witness."
The judge periodically interrupted the lawyer, correcting his questions and rejecting them.
The lawyer also pointed out that the handcuffs were put on Hilal Mamedov before the official decision on his detention. "Actually, it is inhuman, degrading treatment," said the lawyer.
Testifying police captain denied the seizure of Hilal Mamedov’s mobile phone, although the mobile phone was listed as evidence. The police could not explain it.
A lawyer and Hilal Mamedov himself noted that printed lists of the mobile operators prove that the mobile phone remained active at the time, when Hilal Mamedov was in the police. Moreover, policemen phoned Mamedov’s home and told that " he went to see a doctor."
Hilal Mammadov said that the drugs had been planted at a time when the police were removing the mobile phone from the pocket of his trousers.
Captain Musayev and another officer of the same Interior Department, Gasim Huseynov, denied the use of force against Mamedov. However, the forensic examination confirmed the presence of wound in Mamedov’s leg, the depth of 5 mm.
Hilal Mamedov said that the wound was the result of kicks of policemen. He petitioned to conduct a comprehensive forensic examination, the recognition of the torture, to investigate the activities of police officers Khalafov and Humbatov, involved in his beating and appearing in another lawsuit as patrons of the drug dealers.
The trial will continue on 10 July. -06C-
