Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Informed UN and OSCE on Armenian Provocations

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informed the Secretary General and head of the UN Security Council, as well as Chairman of the OSCE Permanent Council of heavy shelling by Armenian forces of Azerbaijani settlements in recent days.

On the eve of and during the 7th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations in Baku the Armenian armed forces fired from heavy artillery at the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, densely populated settlements and civilian facilities along the entire front line, the official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev said.

At the same time, the enemy used weapons banned by international conventions. As a result, serious damage was caused to private and public property, and especially in the Terter region.

In this regard, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry sent a statement to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the UN Security Council Chairman Lu Tszen and the head of the OSCE Permanent Council Paul Eberhard.

The Permanent Missions of Azerbaijan to the UN and the OSCE further informed the Member States of these organizations on the continued provocation of the Armenians.

The appeals accented attention to the violation by the Armenian side of the ceasefire agreement signed on April 5 at Moscow between the Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the two countries.

Pulling additional military force and arms to the contact line, the Armenians fired at the Azerbaijani population living in the frontal zone from heavy guns.

Mammadyarov, in his address said that the Armenian Armed Forces’ provocative actions strike at the diplomatic efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group for settlement of the conflict and called upon the international community to strongly condemn the violation of the norms and principles of international law by Armenia, and to encourage it to comply with the obligations under the agreement on ceasefire and withdraw its armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories. -06D-
