Judoist Zelim Kotsoyev has brought Azerbaijan its second gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. He won the Games in the 100kg weight category, defeating Georgian representative Ilia Sulamanidze in the final.
President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva congratulated Zelim Kotsoyev on winning the Olympic gold medal and wished him new successes in the future.
Earlier, on 29 July, another judoist Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) brought Azerbaijan its first gold medal.
Another medal for Azerbaijan was secured by Cuban Alfonso Dominguez of Cuba, who made it to the semi-finals of the boxing competition. His opponent in the semi-finals will be Spaniard Emmanuel Reyes Pla. The fight will take place on 4 August.

When asked about the arrested climate activists and opposition figures in Azerbaijan, she stated that Germany advocates for the release of government critics and that she would raise this issue during her meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister. She specifically mentioned the name of Professor Gubad Ibadoglu, a doctor from Dresden University.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
