Biden Expects U.S. Aid To Ukraine Will Continue, Says Kherson Retreat Shows Russia's Military Has 'Real Problems'
U.S. president Joe Biden on Wednesday said that Russia’s withdrawal of troops from the key Ukrainian city of Kherson is evidence that its military has “real problems", TURAN's Washington correspondent reports from the White House.
During his press conference as midterm election votes are still being counted, Biden responded to several questions on Ukraine, including the Kremlin’s decision to remove its forces from the Kherson.
Biden, who will be attending the upcoming G20 summit in Indonesia, said the timing of Russia's announcement regarding Kherson was “interesting,” and that he had been told that Vladimir Putin was not likely to attend the upcoming G20 summit in Indonesia.
Biden was also asked by reporters whether aid to Ukraine will continue uninterrupted, to which he responded: “That is my expectation.”
“And by the way, we’ve not given Ukraine a blank check,” the president added. “There’s a lot of things that Ukraine wants that we didn’t do.”
He went on to add, “For example, I was asked very much whether we’d provide American aircrafts to guarantee the skies over Ukraine.. I said ‘No, we’re not gonna do that, we’re no gonna get into a third world war taking on Russian aircrafts and directly engage, but would we provide them with all the rational ability to defend themselves? Yes.”
Biden said he wanted to ensure Ukraine was able to defend itself and “take on what is purely the ugliest aggression that’s occurred since World War 2 on a massive scale”.
