Britain Banishes 23 Russian Diplomats
London / 14.03.18 / Turan: Britain will banish 23 Russian diplomats because of the poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, Prime Minister Theresa May said.
This decision was made because Moscow did not respond to May's request within 24 hours to explain to London how the poisonous substance developed in Russia turned out to be in Britain, the BBC radio reported.
On Wednesday morning, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was ready to give London a response in the case of poisoning in Salisbury within 10 days after receiving an official request. At the same time, Lavrov added that without presenting concrete facts, London "will have to be responsible for a frank attempt to grossly mislead the world community."
On Wednesday it also became known that due to the incident in Salisbury, Britain convened an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council. It will start at 23:00 Baku time. -02D-

"The whole question is about the timing, we need to understand how effectively and correctly to turn such topics into a subject of discussion right now," the Armenian Prime Minister added.

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
