CEC approved nomination of Ilham Aliyev as candidate for President

The Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan on August 10 decided to approve the nomination by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) of the candidacy of its leader, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev to the post of head of state at the election scheduled for October 9.

Thus, Aliyev became the first challenger for the presidency, whose nomination was approved by the CEC.

Now for the registration, the Candidate for President Aliyev has to collect 40,000 signatures in support of him. The deadline for subscription of the lists and other documents necessary for the registration of a candidate for the presidency expires at 18:00 on September 9.

The CEC also received documents for the approval of the nomination as presidential candidates from five applicants - the Chairman of Azadlig (Freedom) Party, Orudj Ahmed, the head of the party Citizens and Development, Ali Aliyev, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Fuad Aliyev, the head of the NGO Center for Public Links Ilgar Altai (self-nominated) and the leader of the Umid (Hope) Party Igbal Agazadeh. -06D--
