CEC refuses to approve the candidacy of Rustam Ibrahimbayov
Today the Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the presidential candidate Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the REAL Movement, who was arrested in Ismayilli region on the events of January 23-24.
Earlier, on August 24 the approval of the candidacy of Mamedov by CEC has been postponed indefinitely, and on August 26, his lawyer filed a complaint with the CEC on the Baku Court of Appeal.
Today, on 27 August, the CEC unexpectedly approved Mamedov as the presidential candidate.
At the same time, the CEC refused to register Rustam Ibrahimbayov, a single candidate from opposition National Council of Democratic Forces.
The CEC explained its decision by saying that Ibrahimbeyov has Russian citizenship and has not have a permanent residence in Azerbaijan in the last 10 years. According to the border guard services, over 10 years he was in the country, only 1,163 days.
However, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the party "Umid", Iqbal Aghazadeh, noted the unfounded refusal to approve, as there is still time and "maybe tomorrow the president of Russia would deprive him of citizenship."
Ibrahimbayov may appeal the decision of the CEC to the Court of Appeal.
Ibrahimbayov’s lawyer, member of the NCDF, Fuad Agayev, in response to a question from Turan on the matter Turan said he had to consulted on this matter with Ibrahimbayov himself.-06D-
