Chiefs of Supreme Courts of Central, Eastern Europe Discuss COVID-19
Baku / 01.12.20 / Turan: On November 30, 2020, with the joint organization of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Keely Institute, a video conference of the chairmen of the Supreme Court of Central and Eastern Europe was held on the topic "Management of judicial activity during a pandemic."
The main purpose of the conference was to discuss the organization of the activities of courts in a special regime during a pandemic, exchange experience in solving existing problems faced by the courts and the use of modern information technologies and innovations.
At the conference, the Presidents of the Supreme Court of Central and Eastern Europe spoke about the problems faced by courts in their countries in the context of a pandemic, about modern information technologies and innovations used to facilitate access to courts.
During the exchange of views, great interest was shown in the judicial practice of Azerbaijan, acquired during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Rzayev, informed the conference participants about the work carried out by the country's leadership to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, about taking the necessary preventive and preventive measures against the pandemic in courts.
Also at the conference, an exchange of views took place on issues that meet the requirements of modernity, the strengthening of justice, which has a high authority in society, the independence and transparency of the court and access to justice.
Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Chingiz Asgarov spoke about the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the rule of law and justice, measures taken by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the pandemic. He brought to the attention of the participants the organization of the activities of courts in a special regime and the introduction of modern innovations in order to facilitate access of citizens to courts.
Ramiz Rzayev also informed the conference participants about the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan's actions to liberate the occupied territories from the 30-year-old Armenian occupation.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court noted that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan launched a counter-terrorist operation on September 27 to restore the internationally recognized borders of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent regions in full compliance with Article 51 of the UN Charter to exercise the right to self-defense. As a result of counter-terrorism operations, the Azerbaijani armed forces liberated many settlements from the Armenian occupation, including Jabrayil, Fizuli, Zangilan, Gubadli and the city of Shusha, which is the cradle of Azerbaijani culture, the press service of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan reported. -0—
