Court Considering Lawsuit Avaz Zeynally to the Press Council
The Narimanov court on Friday considered a claim from the editor of Khural newspaper Avaz Zeynally against the Press Council.
The lawsuit was on the inclusion in September 2011 of the newspaper "Khural" in the list of racketeering newspapers . Zeinally regarded it as a political order and damage to business reputation.
The Press Council, in turn, states that in September 2011, the Council received six complaints of the newspaper Khural.
Zeinally said that the Press Council had no right to make a determination on Khural, as the newspaper is not a member of the joint venture.
During the trial, the judge invited the parties to peace, to which the representative of the Press Council Mushvig Aleskerli said it was possible "under certain conditions". Zeinally, in turn, said that he is ready to make peace if Khural is removed from the black list.
Zeynally also petitioned the court to invite the leaders of some of the media as witnesses, as well as independent experts to carry out the examination of papers that caused complaints to the Press Council .
The next hearing is scheduled for September 2 at 11:00 am.
* Zeinally was arrested in October 2011 and sentenced to 9 years
in March 2012 on charges of extortion. The lawsuit was filed against Zeynally by MP Guler Akhmedova, who was later arrested for fraud. -05D04-
