ECHR started communications on 34 complaints from Azerbaijan
Baku / 17.09.18 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has begun to investigate 34 complaints from Azerbaijan. According to the Strasbourg Court, these are complaints about an obstacle in the activity of civil society institutions, arrests of their bank accounts, violation of property rights. Part of the complaint was sent to legal entities - NGOs. In particular, among the applicants: "Assistance to a free economy"; "Protection of the rights of oil workers"; "Democracy and Human Rights"; "Society for Legal Education"; "Association of Lawyers of Azerbaijan".
In addition, the complaints were filed by: "Center for National and International Studies"; "Institute of Freedom and Safety of Reporters"; "Center for Media Studies" Caucasus", etc. The applicants point to the illegality of the seizure of their bank accounts at the request of the prosecutor's office.
Civil society activists complained about similar violations: Gubad Ibadoglu, Mirvari Gahramanly, Zohrab Ismail, Elchin Abdullayev, Intigam Aliyev, Annagi Hajibeyli, Rasul Jafarov, Gulnara Bagirova, Ainur Imranova and Emin Huseynov.
Director of Azadlig newspaper, Azer Ahmedov, in a statement to the ECHR complains about the wiretapping of his conversations with the abolished MNS. Among the applicants there is the imprisoned Araz Guliyev, editor of the religious site xeber44.com. He was arrested five years ago in the Masalli region, and sentenced to 8 years in prison on charges of illegal possession of weapons and other crimes. The ECHR sent questions to the Azerbaijani government on all these cases, which must be answered within three months. -16D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
