Embassy of Azerbaijan reacted to the publication of Turan
Baku / 23.09.20 / Turan: The Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia responded to the article of the Turan agency: "Are the Azerbaijani authorities indifferent to the fate of fellow citizens arrested in Dagestan?" The publication dealt with the fate of 10 Azerbaijani citizens arrested after a protest on July 15, 2020 in Kullar, Dagestan.
The message from the embassy notes that on September 2-3, the consul of Azerbaijan Togrul Sadigov and the third secretary of the consulate Musannif Dadashev were sent to Derbend to meet with the detainees. They met with seven Azerbaijani citizens held in the detention facility: Aziz Farajzade, Rovshan Huseynov, Elmar Musayev, Emin Imamaliev, Tural Giyasov, Nahid Agayev and Elbrus Ahmedov. The latter stated that the conditions of detention are satisfactory; they regularly meet with lawyers and do not complain about their health.
“The embassy staff noted that they keep the issue in the spotlight. Compatriots were provided with information that they will be provided with the necessary legal assistance and at present, appropriate measures are being taken in this direction,” the message says.
The embassy attracted lawyer R. Rabadanov to protect the rights of all 10 compatriots during the preliminary investigation. As a result of the measures taken, Aziz Farajzade, Elmar Musayev, Emin Imamaliev and Elbrus Ahmedov were placed under house arrest.
The cases of Rovshan Huseynov, Tural Giyasov and Nahid Agayev, who remain in the pre-trial detention center, remain in the center of attention of the embassy and the lawyer, the necessary measures are being taken to ensure their rights, the embassy assures.
The report also notes that the lawyer Murad Velikhanov, mentioned in the article, applied to the embassy in July, having taken the initiative to protect the rights of compatriots. He asked the embassy to provide the detainees with documents. The embassy highly appreciated his initiative, and some necessary documents were presented. “Taking this opportunity for his approach, we once again thank Murad Velikhanov,” it was reported.
The press release also points to the release by the Troitsky Court of Moscow on a written agreement not to leave four Azerbaijani citizens in another case.
“We would like to inform you that the embassy, within the framework of its capabilities and powers, is taking all possible steps to protect the rights of citizens. However, we consider it inappropriate to inform the media about every step,” the message says.
At the same time, the embassy expresses its readiness to cooperate with the media when covering sensitive issues concerning the fate of people in order to inform objectively the public. — 06D-
