EU and UNICEF launch a project in Azerbaijan to support vulnerable youth groups
Baku / 13.06.19 / Turan:Today the EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Expansion Johaness Hahn and head of the UNICEF office in Azerbaijan Edward Karardin presented a new joint initiative to protect the rights of representatives of vulnerable groups of children and youth.
The EU has allocated 3 million euros for this project; it will strengthen the access of these groups to health care, nutrition, development, inclusive education, social services, community and family integration, according to a press release from UNICEF.
The event on the presentation of the project was held with the support of the National Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan. Children with disabilities have demonstrated their abilities and talents. An important part of the joint initiative of the EU and UNICEF is the involvement of disabled children and especially girls in sports.
Commissioner Khan stated that the EU supports projects implemented directly in the communities and cooperates with civil society institutions.
Karvardin, in turn, noted that the project"s goal is to increase access to social services for children with disabilities. According to him, the initiative aims to bring quality services in the community so that as many children, young people and their families can use them. -06D--

On January 15, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of Afghan Sadigov, the founder of the Azel TV website, who had protested his extradition to Azerbaijan. On January 15, the Yasamal District Court rejected the motion to change the detention measure for Azer Gasymly, the director of the Institute of Political Management, his lawyer, Agyl Laidj, to Turan. "Azer Gasymly stated during the trial that the charges against him were fabricated and related to his socio-political activities," the lawyer said. An appeal will be filed against the court's decision.
