European Parliament delegation to visit Baku to support Yunus
The laureate of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 2014 became a Congolese gynecologist Denis Mukvege, according to DW. For his candidacy on Tuesday, October 21 unanimously voted head of the European Parliament, which is the founder of the award, the chairman of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.
59-year-old Mukvege is a famous surgeon and gynecologist who treats victims of violence, the founder of a specialized hospital in Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Among the finalists, except Mukvege, there were also the Ukrainian movement Evromaydan and the Azerbaijani human rights activist Leyla Yunus.
According to Martin Schulz, the representatives of Evromaydan will be invited to the awards ceremony value of 50 million euros, which will be held in Strasbourg on 26 November. However, the European Parliament delegation will travel to Azerbaijan, where it plans to meet and express support for the other finalist for the Sakharov Prize - Leyla Yunus in custody since July 30. -06D--
