Exercises of Border Forces in Caspian Sea
The State Border Service of Azerbaijan held tactical exercises in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea on October 5 to 8. The training included search of dangers to the oil and gas infrastructure, as well as the detection and neutralization of terrorist and subversive groups.
According to the State Border Service press center, the exercises were carried out in three stages over ten tactical episodes to improve the combat and tactical actions of military units against possible threats in the Caspian Sea.
The exercises involved patrol ships, helicopters, artillery and anti-aircraft missile systems on ships that successfully neutralized conventional terrorist groups, underwater vehicles and drones of the imaginary enemy. -16D-

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
