Faraj Guliyev: the attitude of the new government of Georgia to Azerbaijan is worse
Today’s press- conference of the party "National Revival Movement" was on the problems of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia, said at a press conference its leader, Deputy Faraj Guliyev. According to him, the situation of Azerbaijanis in Georgia after the arrival of the new government has deteriorated. He called "dangerous" the statements of the Georgian premier, Ivanashvili, on the revision signed oil contracts and the opening of the railway, connecting Russia with Armenia via Georgia.
The proposed measures are inadequate and do not fit into the character of the relations of Azerbaijan and Georgia, he said. Guliyev said that during Russia’s military aggression against Georgia in 2008, Azerbaijanis demonstrated their commitment to the territorial integrity of Georgia.
Then he sharply criticized the activity of the "Union of the Billionaires" of Russia, and called on the head of "AzerRoss" Soyun Sadigov to cooperate with Armenian associations.
Guliyev believes that all conflicts in the Caucasus are scenarios written by Russia. Moscow is also for the activation of the national minorities in Azerbaijan, which is reflected in the work of separatists from "Sadval" and the emergence of a new social organization called "Talysh Cultural Center."
Participants also raised the issue of education of Azerbaijanis in the native language in Georgia, issues on providing them with lands and the issue of freedom of expression.
According to the Law on Education in Georgia, education in Georgia should be only in the Georgian language. For this reason, it was proposed to give the regional status to Azerbaijani language in Kvemo-Kartli (Borchali).
The Azerbaijanis have not been represented in the government agencies of Georgia, due to lack of knowledge of the Georgian language. However, this is not true, because even those who know the language are not allowed to work in the government.
Participants of the event called on official Baku and civil institutions to closely monitor the problems of Azerbaijanis in Georgia and to actively participate in their resolution. -05C04-
