G. Ibadoglu: President Does Not Believe in the Economic Future of Azerbaijan
"The offshore tax, customs and business environment is more liberal, there is more privacy, and free exchange rate regime. Entrepreneurs in these areas do not pay taxes. Therefore, governments usually oppose their businesses investing in these areas. Often, however, members of the government and heads of state are among those whose capitals are funneling into offshore," Gubal Ibadoglu, the head of the Center for Economic Research said in an interview with Turan, commenting on the research of the international journalism coalition, into the offshore business of the Ilham Aliyev family.
In his view, the offshore investment of the Aliyevs is an indication of lack of confidence in the tax, customs and banking system of Azerbaijan.
"Apparently, the President does not see a prosperous political and economic future for the country he controls. Otherwise, members of his family would put money into the economy of their own country," said Ibadoglu. -03C06-
