How Close Are Armed Forces of Azerbaijan to Shusha, Khankendi?
Baku / 05.11.20 / Turan: For several days in a row, the Armenian side has been reporting about the "destruction" and "neutralization" of sabotage groups of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the approaches to Shusha and Khankendi. But every day these groups "reappear" and are also "successfully neutralized".
The Armenians no longer deny that the forward detachments of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are fighting in the villages, which are 2-3 km from Shusha. According to information from Armenian unofficial sources, residents of the villages of Sykhny, Dashalty, Mukhtar and a number of others, where battles have been going on in the last week, have long since left them and moved to Khankendi or Shusha. The authorities forbid them to leave Karabakh by forcibly holding them back.
At the same time, a real threat to Armenians exists on the Shusha-Lachin road, which has been under fire for at least two days. Considering the fact that shelling is carried out not only from artillery, but also from mortars, it is clear that the attackers are in the immediate vicinity.
This is confirmed by the today's report of the Armenian side about the shelling of Khankendi from 120-mm mortars. If this is the case, then Azerbaijani units are stationed 5-6 km from the city, since the firing range of such mortars is 7 km.
"Mayor" of Khankendi David Sargsyan told Sputnik Armenia that 17,000 out of 56,000 inhabitants remained in the city, and the rest live in bomb shelters. The authorities are preparing to evacuate them to Armenia. These statements contradict the claims of the Armenian Defense Ministry that all attacks by Azerbaijani units were successfully repulsed and the enemy was driven back. -02B-

Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a key energy partner for Europe amidst growing challenges in the natural gas market following the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The disruption, marking the end of a decade-long transit route, is expected to heighten competition in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and drive up prices for alternative energy sources.
