Human Rights Activist Reports Artificial Obstacles in Election Campaign
Baku / 31.12.19 / Turan: The human rights activist Elshan Hasanov, a candidate for deputy from the United Azerbaijan party, said there were obstacles to starting a campaign to collect voters' signatures.
He is running for parliament in early parliamentary elections on February 9, in the 27th Sabunchu second district.
Hasanov told Turan that his candidacy was approved by the CEC. However, to begin collecting 450 voter signatures required to register candidates, he cannot open a bank account.
On December 30, the International Bank of Azerbaijan OJSC (IBA) told him that since he is running from a party, the organization’s representative should also come.
When, on December 31, he came with the party’s representative to the bank, they demanded additional documents.
Hasanov believes that he would be artificially obstructed in order to limit the time for collecting signatures of voters and to prevent his registration as a candidate for deputy.
Earlier, the Musavat party also announced artificial barriers to the registration of its candidates. —06B-
