Human Rights Activists Again Call on Authorities to Investigate Beating of Election Observer
Baku / 24.02.20 / Turan: Leaders of a number of gender-related NGOs turned to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in connection with an act of violence at a polling station during parliamentary elections against observer Zhala Bayramova.
Recalling the obligations of Azerbaijan under the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the authors point out the facts of discrimination against women in society.
In particular, it points to the fact of the brutal beating of the 4th year student of the BSU law faculty Zhala Bayramova, who was a observer at the 16th polling station of the 76th Lankaran-Astara district on February 9.
The video frames of the brutal beating by an Azada Kerimova are widespread on social networks, and despite numerous appeals and complaints, no measures were taken. Moreover, the head of the CEC, Mazahir Panahov, blamed Bayramova herself for the incident, saying that she did not have the right to video-record violations during the vote.
The authors of the appeal ask the President and First Vice President to provide an objective investigation of the act of violence and punish the organizers and perpetrators of this crime.
The appeal was signed by Novella Jafaroglu, Mehriban Zeynalova, Zalikha Tagirova, Saida Gojamanli, Saadat Bananyarly, Mirvari Gahramanli, Arzu Abdullayeva, Ruhangiz Huseynova, Sevil Allahverdiyeva, Shahla Ismail, Nabat Ganieva and Firuza Asadullayeva. –06D-

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention.
