ICRC Provides Assistance to Women and Children in Iraq

Baku / 10.11.17 / Turan: The International Committee of the Red Cross provides humanitarian assistance to 1,300 women and children from different countries who have found themselves in Iraq. This was reported by the head of the public relations department of the ICRC"s Baku office Ilaha Huseynova.

Assistance includes meeting humanitarian needs, providing hygiene products, medicines, water, etc. In addition, representatives of the Red Cross help these individuals to establish contacts with members of their families in other countries, and also register street children.

"Negotiations on their further fate are being held with the relevant authorities. With the consent of these individuals, their fate is reported to the relevant diplomatic missions," Huseynova said.

The question of the return of women and children caught in Iraq is decided by Baghdad and the governments of the countries of which they are citizens.

However, in accordance with its mandate, the ICRC does not disclose information about the identity of people visited and their nationality.

Earlier, one of the Iraqi MPs said 200 Azerbaijani women suspected of having links with ISIS were detained in Iraq. This information is being investigated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. -06D--
