Ilham Aliyev received NATO Special Representative
Baku / 26.09.17 / Turan: On Tuesday, the head of state Ilham Aliyev received the NATO special representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai who is in Baku. According to the official message, one of the topics of the talks was the situation around the Karabakh settlement. In particular, Ilham Aliyev accused Armenia of imitating negotiations on the settlement. In addition, the sides discussed issues of Azerbaijan's cooperation with NATO and, in particular, support of Azerbaijan for the forces of the international coalition in Afghanistan. -02D-

In late December, the Nakhchivan Court for Serious Crimes concluded the trial of former Minister of Finance of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Rafael Aliyev, and former head of the Nakhchivan Customs Committee’s department, Mansur Askerov. Both were accused of embezzling state budget funds in collusion with others. In his testimony, Askerov revealed that illegal fees were being collected for cargo and from passengers. Sahat Habibbeyli, appointed head of Nakhchivan Customs in 2020, had instructed Askerov to include only a portion of the collected funds in the Transport and International Relations (TIR) program.
