Interior Ministry: the number of violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens, as compared to 2011

The meeting of the  results of 2012 took place in the Ministry of Interior on January 28. Interior Minister, Ramil Usubov, said that the number of crimes per 100,000 population fell from 266 to 236.

Whereabouts of 71 people wanted by Interpol were found, and 27  are  in different countries. In total, 67.4% of the wanted have been arrested.

As a result of systematic struggle against organized crime 200 criminal groups  consisting of 564 people, were made harmless. They committed very  649 serious crimes, including 15 murders, 61 robberies and 56 burglaries.

During this period,  from the population were seized 713 firearms and nearly 35,000 rounds of ammunition; 100 people were prosecuted for possession and carrying of firearms.

The number of crimes committed with the use of firearms is 57, which is by  22% lower than in 2011. Last year there were 12 cases of  money forgery, and 270,000 AZN  and 3011 counterfeit banknotes were confiscated. .

The Minister also noted that last year the number of administrative violations in road traffic has grown by 14%; 503 people were punished for auto-hooliganism.

The number of deaths in road accidents increased in 2012 to 152 persons, and the number of injuries decreased by 34 people.  The number of road accidents in the country decreased.

According to the minister, the number of violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens, as compared to 2011, remained unchanged. However, a decrease  of such facts in the capital  is observed, says Usubov.

The number of unnecessary drive to the police decresed by 16%, and illegal detentions by 19%.  There is not a  single case of torture by the police, illegal use of service weapons, illegal searches, he said.

There were 54 facts  in connection with corruption offenses among staff  81 employees were brought to justice, 51 were dismissed, and  aginst six were applied disciplinary measures. -16D04-
