"Moment of Truth" for Corrupt Regime
The emergence of the Internet video, which is bidding for the mandate of the Azerbaijani parliament deputy, was a "moment of truth". What was said over the years based on assumptions is now documented. In an interview with Turan, the Public Forum head, "For Azerbaijan" Eldar Namazov said, commenting on the scandalous video, the woman who calls herself a deputy, Gular Ahmedova, promises the Rector of the International University, Elshad Abdullayev would be elected to Parliament for money.
"The fact that parliamentary lists are prepared in advance, and MPs are appointed and not elected, was known long ago. Of course, part of this list gets to Parliament based on political loyalty. However, there are those who get there for money. Previously, this was difficult to prove, but now there is documented evidence," said Namazov.
This story is yet another testimony to moral, political, and the moral corruption of the regime." This proves once again that this government only seeks money, for which it plunders the wealth of the people and sells positions and MP mandates," continued Namazov.
He does not expect the government will report to the public of the scandalous revelations, as is customary in civilized countries. They did not bother to come up with explanations for evidence disclosure of the ruling elite membership of large companies, retending now that nothing happened. But, public opinion will affect this seriously, as seen already by comments sen on social networks, said Namazov.
Commenting on the video, lawyer Alasgar Mammadli told Turan the appearance in the media or on the Internet of images that can be qualified as criminal acts should lead to investigation and prosecution. If warranted, the case should be prosecuted, and in this case, of bribery, Mammadli said.
In his view, the investigation is necessary because its members are public figures, the MP and a Rector of a university.
On the question of the very legitimacy of sharing pictures on the Internet, the expert said that Article 32 of the Constitution limits the dissemination of information relating to private life, and the case is not covered by it.
On the other hand, a similar secret recording, made by Gular Ahmedova, served as a basis for the criminal case against the editor of the newspaper Khural Avaz Zeynalli. -06B-
