Natig Jafarli: West Primarily Cares about Its Own Interests
Baku / 21.07.18 / Turan: This week's visit of the President of Italy to Baku and the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Paris can be recorded as an active policy of Baku.
These visits showed that it is in vain to expect the West to support the issue of human rights in Azerbaijan. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Turan by a member of the Mejlis of the Republican Alternative Party (REAL) Natig Jafarli.
President of Italy Sergio Matarella, who visited Azerbaijan officially this week, disavowed all the questions related to the construction of the TAP gas pipeline in Italy.
In addition, his visit should be viewed from the point of view of opening new opportunities for expanding trade and economic cooperation.
At a joint business forum, Italian companies were invited to direct investments in Azerbaijan, and received reliable guarantees of their investments.
Even greater interest was caused by Ilham Aliyev's visit to Paris. On the eve of the visit, there were reports that France had lifted the embargo on the supply of arms to Azerbaijan. One of the purposes of this visit, presumably, was precisely the issues of military cooperation.
The Karabakh conflict was also discussed, and serious meetings were held with representatives of the business community.
"This all shows that Europe, and the West in general, pursues its own interests first of all. Therefore it is in vain to expect that someone from Europe will rise up and begin to defend rights in Azerbaijan. The world thinks more pragmatically," Jafarli said.
On the other hand, these meetings (the meetings of the Azerbaijani leader with the Presidents of France and Italy) mean that the Azerbaijani government has received support from these countries. -06D-

Official Baku has condemned the visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to the Azerbaijan-Armenia border during his official visit to Armenia. "The visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to the to Armenia-Azerbaijan border area in the company of members of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA), unfortunately, is another demonstration of anti-Azerbaijani policy of different EU member countries and European institutions. We deeply regret that President of the country which is officially a “strategic partner” of Azerbaijan has participated in the unacceptable diplomatic “binocular show” leading to the aggravation of relations between Azerbaijan and Poland,”" reads the statement on the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ account on X (formerly Twitter).
