New charges against Abzas media case defendants
Economist Farid Mehralizada, arrested in the "Abzas media case", was charged with seven new serious charges on 16 August, his wife Nargiz Mukhtarova said.
Farid is charged under Articles 192.3.2, 193-1.3.1, 193-1.3.2, 206.4, 320.1, 320.2 and 213.2.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal entrepreneurship by an organised group, legalisation of large sums of money obtained by criminal means by an organised group, smuggling by an organised group, forgery of documents and use of forged documents, tax evasion by an organised group). This was written by the wife of the economist in her Facebook account.
On the same day, similar charges were brought against journalist of Abzas media Nargiz Abasalamova. Apparently, the same charges will be brought against all the other defendants in the case.
* Farid Mehralizadeh was arrested by the Khatai Court of Baku on 1 June for 3 months and 20 days. He was charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling), as part of the Abzas media case.
At the trial Mehralizadeh stated that he was not guilty and had no business relations with Abzas media.
The economist also stated that he was physically pressurised during the detention.
