New charges against Abzas media case defendants
Economist Farid Mehralizada, arrested in the "Abzas media case", was charged with seven new serious charges on 16 August, his wife Nargiz Mukhtarova said.
Farid is charged under Articles 192.3.2, 193-1.3.1, 193-1.3.2, 206.4, 320.1, 320.2 and 213.2.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal entrepreneurship by an organised group, legalisation of large sums of money obtained by criminal means by an organised group, smuggling by an organised group, forgery of documents and use of forged documents, tax evasion by an organised group). This was written by the wife of the economist in her Facebook account.
On the same day, similar charges were brought against journalist of Abzas media Nargiz Abasalamova. Apparently, the same charges will be brought against all the other defendants in the case.
* Farid Mehralizadeh was arrested by the Khatai Court of Baku on 1 June for 3 months and 20 days. He was charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling), as part of the Abzas media case.
At the trial Mehralizadeh stated that he was not guilty and had no business relations with Abzas media.
The economist also stated that he was physically pressurised during the detention.

When asked about the arrested climate activists and opposition figures in Azerbaijan, she stated that Germany advocates for the release of government critics and that she would raise this issue during her meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister. She specifically mentioned the name of Professor Gubad Ibadoglu, a doctor from Dresden University.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
