Baku / 13.03.18 / Turan: US President Donald Trump announced the resignation of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The new head of the State Department will be CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
The CIA will be headed for the first time in history by a woman, ex-deputy head of the intelligence department, Gina Gaspel.
Trump said in Twitter that he would dismiss the head of the US State Department and replace him with the head of the CIA Pompeo.
"Mike Pompeo, the director of the CIA, will be our new Secretary of State, he will do a great job of it! Thanks to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Gaspel will become the new director of the CIA, and the first woman chosen for that. Congratulations to everyone!" Trump wrote.
Previously, the US media reported on the contradictions between Trump and Tillerson. The media pointed out that serious differences arose between Tillerson and Trump, in particular, on the missile tests of North Korea and Iran's nuclear program.
Rex Tillerson is not a career diplomat. For 42 years he worked for one of the world's largest oil companies Exxon Mobil. He is intimately familiar with Russian President Vladimir Putin, responsible for the development of relations between Exxon and Gazprom and was awarded the Order of Friendship in Russia.-02D-
