Nomination of Seven More Presidential Candidates Approved
Baku / 17.02.18 / Turan: Seven more candidates have been nominated for the post of the head of Azerbaijan at the extraordinary presidential elections on April 11.
The relevant decisions were taken by the CEC on Saturday.
In particular, the nominated candidates for presidency are Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Faraj Guliyev, leader of the National Revival Movement party, Araz Alizadeh, head of the Social Democratic Party, and Hafiz Hajiyev, leader of the Modern Musavat Party. All of them have been nominated by the parties headed by them.
All these persons were nominated as presidential candidates before, but they collected the number of votes within the percentage error.
Alizadeh, Hasanguliyev and Guliyev are members of the Milli Majlis of the current convocation.
Hajiyev is scandalously known for eccentric attacks against opposition leaders and other critics of power.
In addition, self-nomination of little known candidates Elshan Hasanov and Asif Mammadov was approved. Razi Nurullayev was nominated by the Initiative Front Men Group. In 2015, he was expelled from the opposition Popular Front Party for attempting to split the organization. The party's leadership accused him of secret cooperation with the authorities.
Earlier, the CEC approved the nomination of the current head of state, chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Fuad Aliyev, a non-party member of parliament Zahid Oruj, a member of the Bar Association Anar Umudov, and the head of the White Party Tural Abbasli.
Thus, the number of nominated candidates for the presidency has reached 12.
For official registration, candidates must collect at least 40,000 signatures of voters in the territory of at least 60 of all 125 districts. The deadline for accepting signatures of voters expires at 18:00 on March 12.
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) announced boycott of the elections due to the lack of democratic conditions for their conduct. The Musavat Party and the Umid Party announced that they would not participate in the elections. The Republican Alternative (ReAl) Movement, the NIDA Movement and the Movement for Democracy and Welfare declared their refusal to recognize the results of the elections. -06D--
