On November 17, the International Court of Justice of the United Nations will rule on Armenia`s lawsuit against Azerbaijan
Baku/11.11.23/Turan: On November 17, the UN International Court of Justice will rule on the case of Armenia against Azerbaijan regarding Yerevan's complaint about Baku's actions in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
New demands for interim measures were filed by Armenia against Azerbaijan on September 28 after Baku conducted an anti-terrorist operation in Karabakh. Armenia's petition contains 10 points, among them: to avoid violating the conventions on the prohibition of discrimination; to refrain from deporting the remaining Armenians and not to prevent their return; to withdraw armed formations from cities and villages that came under the control of Baku on September 19-20; to avoid punitive measures against former representatives of the former separatist regime; etc.
Baku called Armenia's demands to the court unfounded and absurd.
"The fact that Armenia does not renounce its claims to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, puts forward new lawsuits to incite hatred against Azerbaijanis, ignoring the previous decision of the International Court of Justice in the mentioned case, is absolutely unacceptable," Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizade said.
He recalled that Armenia applied to this court three times in 2023. "Let me remind you that of Armenia's three petitions filed in January, two were rejected, one was granted in a limited manner. Armenia's petitions filed in May were unanimously rejected by the court in July," Hajizade stressed.
Hearings on Armenia's latest lawsuit were held on October 12. ---06B---
